These terms govern every Greater Hartford and Northeast-corridor move Woodland Moving and Warehouse books out of 218 Brainard Road, Suite 4, Hartford, CT 06114. They apply alongside the binding flat estimate Doug Fairbanks writes for your job and Bobby Whitcomb counter-signs, the bill of lading on move-day, and any addendum we add for warehouse storage or auction-house consignment.

Who Woodland is, legally

Woodland Moving and Warehouse is a Connecticut household-goods moving company registered with the Connecticut Department of Transportation for in-state hauls, and with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration under our own US DOT and MC authority for interstate hauls. The Brainard Road address is the legal address of record.

The binding-flat figure

The binding-flat estimate on Brainard Road letterhead, signed by Doug and counter-signed by Bobby, is the contract price. It does not change on move-day unless you, the customer, sign a written addendum for a customer-requested add-on. The figure includes the truck, the W-2 crew, the fuel and mileage, all tolls on the route, pads, shrink-wrap, dollies, e-track straps, and walk-boards. Stairs at the origin and destination are inside the figure when Doug measured them on the walkthrough.

Deposit and cancellation

A $235 deposit holds the truck and the crew slot on the dispatch board. It applies against the binding total. The deposit is refundable up to seventy-two hours before the booked move-day. Inside seventy-two hours it holds the slot regardless.

What stays out of the truck

Federal hazardous materials regulations (49 CFR Parts 100-185) keep gasoline, propane tanks, ammunition, fireworks, paint thinner, pool chemicals, and most flammable aerosols off the truck. Perishables, plants on interstate moves (state-line agricultural rules), cash, jewelry, and prescription medication ride with you in your own vehicle.

Cargo coverage, released-value, claim window

Federal $1M cargo coverage per shipment is on file. The federal released-value baseline is $0.60 per pound per article; full-value coverage is available as a quoted upgrade Maggie writes into the binding figure. The federal claim window is nine months from the date of delivery. Written claims with photo documentation go to Maggie at the Brainard Road desk.

Antique-furniture warehouse terms

Climate-controlled storage at the Brainard Road bay is billed monthly at $150 to $330 per month depending on cubic footage and access frequency. A separate warehouse-receipt addendum is signed at intake and at outgo. The chain-of-custody log is kept by Sean and a copy goes to Maggie. For probate inventories, the estate attorney’s signature is required on the intake and the outgo sheet, and a copy is filed with the Hartford County Probate Court when the law requires it. For auction-house consignments, the consignor’s signature and the auction-house intake-receipt number are recorded on the outgo sheet.

Property damage at origin or destination

If a piece of door-frame trim, a stair-rail spindle, a brick stoop or a finished wall is damaged on a Woodland move, photograph it with Joey or Sean on the curb that same day. Document on the bill of lading. The claim is honored against the cargo coverage on file and Maggie processes it from Brainard Road.

Weather rescheduling

Bobby holds the right to reschedule a move-day when the coastal forecast off Long Island Sound or the Connecticut River valley posts a nor’easter advisory, a winter-storm warning, or a black-ice advisory along Albany Avenue and the West End brownstone row. The Brainard Road desk will call by 4 p.m. the day before. A weather reschedule does not forfeit your deposit; we move the truck to the next clean day on the dispatch board.

Tipping

Tipping is at your discretion and goes directly to the W-2 crew on the curb. Industry custom is roughly $20 to $40 per mover for a Greater Hartford in-town day, scaled by job length and difficulty. Woodland does not add an automatic gratuity to the binding-flat figure.

Jurisdiction and governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Connecticut. Any dispute arising from a Woodland binding-flat contract or warehouse-receipt addendum falls in the courts of Hartford County, Connecticut. The federal claim window controls for interstate hauls under our US DOT / MC authority.

If we update these terms we date the change at the bottom of the page. Material changes are emailed to active customers on file before the change takes effect. Questions go to Maggie at the Brainard Road desk; Bobby counter-signs.

Over the phone, Bobby walks the whole inventory with you — the Steinway B in the parlor, the gun safe under the basement stair, the workshop band saw, the highboy Charles Whitcomb himself built off the dairy-barn lumber in 1947 — and prices the load against the I-91 wall slate. The binding figure is emailed back on Woodland letterhead before Doug locks the office door at 4:30 p.m. Eastern. One desk owns your move from first call through final invoice; nothing is bounced to a broker, a national overflow queue or an after-hours answering service. If a Tuesday goes by with no reply from you, the thread closes there — Ellie picks the phone back up only when you do.
